Central DeWitt FFA Sells Christmas Poinsettas

Written By Adam Wilke

Poinsettia sales for the Central DeWitt FFA chapter were held on Wednesday, December 3rd in the greenhouse. There were a variety of different selections, including red, white, pink, and jingle bell (a red and white marble). These were sold for $15, and sold out on Wednesday. The chapter donated 12 flowers to 6 of our sponsors in the community, and finished selling the flowers at the chapter’s annual Roots to Riches event held on December 15th. Poinsettias are popular flowers around Christmas time, contributing 250 million dollars to the U.S. economy annually. They are originally from Mexico, but were brought to the U.S. by congressman Joel Roberts Poinsett. Contrary to popular belief, these flowers are not poisonous, but their sap can cause irritation. If you bought poinsettias, we hope you enjoy their bright colors during the holiday season!
