Safety Starts on the Farm
By: Audrina Gordon

The Central DeWitt FFA Chapter hosted Farm Safety Day on September 25th. Members
within the chapter taught 88 4th graders about Large Animal, Chemical, Outdoor, ATV, PTO
& Equipment, Water, Hunting, First Aid, Grain Bin and Fire, and Lawn Care Safety. Students
participated in hands-on activities where they got to see things like a fire truck, farm
animals, tractors, and all other sorts of equipment. A total of 36 FFA members
participated, whether as group leaders or by teaching a station to the kids. Students
received take-home bags that were sponsored by businesses and people within the
community. Some things included flashlights, activity packets, bracelets, stickers, rulers,
and DQ Ice cream chips. Throughout the day, students learned new skills, such as how to
stay safe on the farm and respond to unexpected situations.
